Keil School Centenary Celebrations at Campbeltown,  Machrihanish and Southend, Kintyre

                                               September 4th to 6th 2015

To Old Boys, Parents, former Staff and Friends of Keil School

We have arranged a programme of events to celebrate and commemorate the centenary of the foundation of Keil School at Southend in November 1915. We sincerely hope that you will be able to join us in making this a memorable gathering.

The weekend will start with the unveiling of a bronze plaque attached to the base of Sir William Mackinnon’s statue which is situated on the waterfront at Campbeltown. The plaque will outline the Keil founding role played by Sir William and his nephew Mr Duncan Macneill. It will be unveiled by Mr Andrew Mackinnon the great – great – nephew of Sir William at 4 pm on Friday September the 4th 2015. We hope that this will be followed by a civic reception in Campbeltown.

To provide more detail of the history of the school an expanded version of the plaque will be prepared as a glass etching which will be sited in the Campbeltown Library. We also intend to attach a weatherproof version of this plaque to the ruin of the original school building at Southend.

We have arranged that the main centre for accommodation and social activities will be the Ugadale Hotel at Machrihanish. (Please mention Keil Centenary Celebrations when booking  01586 810019

There will be opportunities for golf, walking, cycling and sightseeing and a visit to the ruins of the original school building.

A buffet dinner and ceilidh will be held on the evening of Saturday 5th September 2015 at a cost of £35 per head. Please purchase tickets online at  where you can also book other events over the weekend.

Associated with the centenary celebrations we are arranging to have the final chapter of  “ A History of Keil School” compiled by Tommy Cotter, a distinguished Old Boy of the late fifties era.

In order to fund the construction and fixing of the plaques, along with publication of the final chapter of “A History of Keil School” we are seeking donations. Any donor, prepared to donate £200 or more, will receive recognition and thanks in an addendum to the History. Of course donations of any value will be greatly appreciated.

Further details on the weekend, events, tickets and ways to donate are listed in the attached file. KS100email
